I am disappointed at the lack of consultation with CFA brigades regarding the inception of Fire Rescue Victoria from 1 July 2020.

I am disheartened but not surprised, as complaints roll in from across volunteer brigades following the reassignment of 171 support staff from the CFA to Fire Rescue Victoria.

I strongly opposed the fire service reforms in 2019 and at the time expressed grave fears that the proposed changes would divide emergency services in Victoria. Complaints about the lack of consultation with CFA volunteers have been ongoing since the reforms were first conceived and, in particular, since the relevant legislation passed the Parliament in June 2019.

I offer my ongoing support to CFA volunteer brigades, which are critical to our safety and to that of regional communities.
